Roy Wood Jr to host America's Have I Got News For You
Former Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood Jr. is to host the US remake of Have I Got News For You, it has been announced.
News channel CNN is to broadcast ten episodes of the topical comedy quiz at 9pm on Saturdays from September 14, made by UK production company Hat Trick Productions
The comedian, who spoke at last year’s White House Correspondents dinner, took a pop at Donald Trump’s muck-mocked comments about ‘black jobs’ as he spoke about taking the chair of the show.
He said: ‘For far too long immigrants have been coming to America and taking black jobs, kudos to CNN and the immigrants at Hat Trick Productions for bringing a black job to the States.'
‘It is an honour to be a part of such a hallowed British institution to help make sense of the American institutions of chaos, name-calling, disinformation, reality television and the eight-hour news cycle.’
Team captains and guests for the series have not yet been announced.
This will be CNN’s first foray into comedy, although it does air repeats of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher.
Hat Trick previously piloted a US version of Have I Got News For You in 2009 for NBC and another in 2012 for TBS, but neither were picked up for a series.
