‘Bringing some comedy to the competition’

Aisling Bea is to join RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, the BBC has announced today.

The stand-up’s role will be to ‘bring some comedy to the competition’, according to producers.

She said: ‘It is a pure honour to be part of RuPaul’s Drag Race. It’s a celebration of all that is loud and proud and over the top and I felt very at home.’

And taking to Twitter she said: ‘I can finally tell you I’m gonna be on the next season of @dragraceukbbc - not competing alas but in another capacity.

‘I loved doing it so very much, it was one of my best days of the year & the queens I met are some of the funniest, most talented stars on the block.’

The list of guest judges has also been announced today, including Ab Fab’s Joanna Lumley and Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham.

Lumley said: ‘The show is astounding at every level, and I loved it from the very start. RuPaul is the definition of what it is to be fabulous, and the show is packed with mad creativity, humour, and drop-dead glamour.’

Other celebrity judges will be TV presenter Alison Hammond, musicians Boy George, FKA Twigs, Olly Alexander   and Mel B, celebrity chef Lorraine Pascale and influencer Leomie Anderson.

They will be  joining RuPaul and regular sidekicks Michelle Visage, Alan Carr and Graham Norton.

Broadcast dates details for the fourth series have not yet been revealed.
