
Chortle Student Comedy Award 2022: Final finalists named
Wildcards through to Edinburgh Fringe showcase
The last five Chortle Student Award finalists can be revealed today.
Going through as wildcards from across the five semi-finals across the country are:
- Sascha LO, 21, who is studying politics, philosophy and economics at Durham University and who took part in the Edinburgh semi-final
- Hasan Al-Habib, 28, who is studying a PhD in clinical medicine at Cambridge and who took part in our second London semi-final
- Ethan Willmer-Anderson, 21, who is studying electronic engineering with artificial intelligence at Southampton and who took part in our first London semi-final
- Henry Shannon, 23, originally from Henan, China, who is now studying mathematics and Warwick university and who competed in London
- Alex Mason, 21, who is studying maths at Cardiff and took part in the semi-final in the Welsh capital
They join the winners of the individual semi-finals:
- Jin Hao Li, a 23-year-old from Singapore, now studying English and film studies at the University of St Andrews
- Jack Dearnley, a 21-year-old studying comedy writing and performance degree at Salford University
- Charlie Humphrey, also 21, studying for a masters in Biomedical Sciences at Warwick University
- Stepan Mysko von Schultze, 22, studying for a masters in English literature at Oxford
- Caitriona Dowden, a 22-year-old studying for a masters in medieval studies, also at Oxford
- Henry Whaley, a 21-year-old studying for a masters at the Courtauld Institute of Art
They all now go on to the final at the Edinburgh Fringe in August – full details yet to be announced - and will also play the comedy arena at the Latitude Festival in Suffolk on July 21-24.
As finalists, they will be following in the footsteps of Joe Lycett, Jamali Maddix, Ed Gamble, Chris Ramsey, Laura Lexx, Iain Stirling, Simon Bird and Tom Rosenthal.
The ultimate winner will receive a trip to Australia to perform stand-up there, thanks to the generous support of the Comedy Lounge in Perth.
