Have you got a cracker of a joke about 2021?

Gold launches its annual Christmas competition

Comedy TV channel Gold has announced the return of its annual Christmas cracker joke competition to discover the best festive gags.

As always they are seeking contributions based on the ups and downs of the year, with £1,500 in experience vouchers up for grabs.

Last year’s winning joke was by Craig Roberts from Manchester and about a certain No10 aide’s ill-advised drive to Barnard Castle during lockdown: ‘What is Dominic Cummings’ favourite Christmas song? Driving Home for Christmas.’

Perhaps trying to nudge entrants away from some of the more heavy topics of 2021, Gold has suggested topics for 2021 gags might include England getting to the final of the Euros, Emma Raducanu winning the US Open, Tom Daley’s knitting at the Olympics,  the ship that blocked the Suez Canal for six days and Jackie Weaver’s handling of a Handforth Parish Council meeting.

Gold channel director Gerald Casey said: ‘Every year I look forward to the Gold Christmas Cracker jokes, the British public’s wit is always so impressive. It will be interesting to see what our viewers come up with to make sense of 2021.’

The competition is open from today until 11.59pm on Monday October 18, and to enter you need to tweet original, family-friendly Christmas jokes with the hashtag #GoldCrackers, within Twitter’s 280-character limit. Multiple entries are allowed and you must be following @GoldChannel.

Jokes from the winner and nine runners-up be included in a personalised set of crackers that they will all receive.
