Dylan Moran attacks 'panel show wankers'

'That's the opposite of comedy'

Dylan Moran has slammed panel shows – and Radio 4’s humorous output –  as being ‘the opposite of comedy’.

The acerbic stand-up has never done a panel show and said it would take ‘£4.5million paid up front in single notes’ to persuade him.

And when asked if he had a favourite panel show, and replied: ‘Yes. I particularly like the one called What A Bunch Of Fucking Wankers.’

His uncompromising comments come in a Metro interview to promote his forthcoming tour, Dr Cosmos, which kicks off at the Edinburgh Fringe in August.

Moran said: ‘Comedy isn’t what most people think it is. Most people think comedy is jokes or the shit you hear on Radio 4.

‘Most people think comedy is a bunch of panel wankers sitting around, slapping each other on the back, laughing at the same stuff.

‘That’s not comedy. That’s death. Slow death. That’s the opposite of entertainment and comedy. It’s "fun" that’s designed to crush you.’

Moran also revealed that he is working on a couple of pilots, ‘one about a psychiatrist’.
