Reggie Watts to air a live, improvised sitcom

Crowe’s Nest will be streamed tonight

Reggie Watts will tonight stream a live, fully improvised half-hour sitcom.

But Brits will have to set an alarm, as it will be going out at 5am our time.

Fellow comedians Rory Scovel and Kate Berlant  will be joining him for the half-hour episode of Crowe’s Nest.

Watts – host of the US version of Taskmaster and leader of James Corden’s house band – previously experimented with the improvised sitcom during his last hour-long special Spatial.

But tonight’s episode is on a much bigger scale, with proper sets, nine cameras and up to 30 crew members… but no studio audience.

Speaking to US website The Interrobang, Watts said there really was no plan for the show. He said: ‘We’re just going from zero. As long as there’s sets, costumes, and cameras, that’s really all we need

‘There’ll be commercial breaks. During the commercial breaks, that’ll give us time to get ready for the next scene. The actors will have just a quick powwow real quick about something to do for the next thing. Then we’ll just kind of go.’

And producers Butcher Bird Studios say: ‘This will be a 100 per cent improvised show – and the first of its kind in the live streaming domain.

‘No script or dialogue will have been set up beforehand. The cast will arrive a few minutes before the show begins and the rest will be a spontaneous display of improv magic.’

The broadcast also includes a pre-show built up about an hour before kick-off showing the crew getting ready and speaking about how they show has come together.

Crowe’s Nest will stream onWatts’ YouTube page, as well as several other platforms, including Digital Domain, which will be streaming a virtual reality version live.

Watts and Berlant have released some improvised trailers for the show.

Watts is also playing the Underbelly in London on June 23.
