Mike Birbiglia: Thank God for Jokes

The storytelling comedian behind the acclaimed specials Sleepwalk with Me and My Girlfriend's Boyfriend turns to the topic of telling jokes itself for his new stand-up show, freshly arrived on Netflix.

'Jokes have been ruined by people who aren't good at telling jokes,' he tells the audience. 'A joke should never end with "I'm joking". Or "Git-R-Done".

Filmed in Brooklyn, he also covers 'hard truths about puppets and late people' - but jokes, their impact and potential for offence is the underpinning theme. Subscribers can watch here

Crackanory

If you missed season four of Crackanory, Dave's storytelling series – featuring a raft of comics including Dara O Briain, Mackenzie Crook and Mel Giedroyc – all eight episodes are available on UKTV Play. Watch here – or read our episode guide here

Love and a Lug Wrench

Having been selected for a host of film festivals, this absurd comedy from director Jeffrey Fleisig is now out on Vimeo. It stars Ben Wilson and Abby Miller, whose credits include Mad Men, and tells a twisted love story in which the bodies pile up as Pete tries to win over his dream girl.

Life Of Crime

This 2013 crime comedy movie was adapted from Elmore Leonard's novel and includes characters in common with the Quentin Tarantino film Jackie Brown, also based on the writer's work. Jennifer Aniston stars as the target of an ill-planned kidnapping plot by a pair of fumbling ex-cons, while the cast also includes Isla Fisher and Tim Robbins.

It's on iPlayer, having recently screened on BBC Two.
