Simon Day is Waiting For Waiting For Godot
Brian Pern actor Simon Day is to star in a new play, set backstage at Waiting For Godot.
Like the original, Waiting For Waiting For Godot concerns two men waiting around for an unlikely event... but this time they are understudies on a production of Samuel Beckett’s classic hoping for their chance to go on.
Day will appear alongside Laura Kirman and James Marlow – both from Olivier-award winning The Play That Goes Wrong – when the comedy has its European premiere in London.
The Fast Show star said: 'I am very excited to be doing what I consider the funniest play I have ever read, about the reality of the most noble of professions - the understudy! I cannot wait to share this play with London audiences.'
Written by American playwright Dave Hanson, the play was first performed at the New York Fringe in 2013, where the New York Times called it 'delectable', and now opens at the St James Studio for a month-long run from August 30.
Waiting For Waiting For Godot is directed by Mark Bell, who also called the shots on The Play That Goes Wrong, and The Comedy About a Bank Robbery.
