Have I got tweets for you...

Twitter to host a comedy panel show

A new comedy panel show is to be staged across Twitter.

Ten Million Comedians will pitch two stand-ups in a battle to create the best one-liners – with the winner being the one who racks up the most retweets over the hour.

The event – from 6pm on May 1 – will be hosted by Radio 1 DJ Matt Edmondson, although the comics taking part have not yet been named.

He said: ‘I love Twitter... And I’m delighted to be trying something that feels fresh, innovative, and most importantly, allows me not to have to get dressed to come in to work.’

Those following the show via @tmcshow are also invited to tweet their own quips for possible inclusion.

It is being produced by TV production company Thames with its sister company FremantleMedia UK Interactive.

Thames’s head of development Joe Evans said: ‘Everybody has been struggling to put Twitter into a TV show, but we are putting the TV show into Twitter.’

Next week Comedy Central is launching the first #ComedyFest, a five-day celebration of comedy taking place on Twitter – which will also include a tweet-based panel show. One strand called What’s Newsing? will feature a panel of comics vying to create the funniest tweets based on the day’s news.
