Remaining student semi-finalists announced

The winner of the People’s Choice place in the Chortle Student Comedy Award with ALCATEL ONE TOUCH can be revealed as Kevin O’Connell.

The 22-year-old, originally from Athlone, is a business information systems student at the National University of Ireland, and performed in the Dublin heat. He said his influences are ‘Simon Amstell, Stewart Lee, Noel Fielding and Andrew Maxwell’.

Around 4,500 people voted in the poll – after multiple votes were discounted – which closed at 5pm tonight

O’Connell now goes on to one of the two semi-finals, to be held in Manchester on May 12 (Tickets) and London on May 13 (Tickets).

We can also announce the winners of the judges’ choice selections, who also win wildcard places in the semi-finals.

The grand final will take place during the Edinburgh Fringe – in Pleasance One at 10.30pm on August 12 – where the top prize of £2,000 will be award.
