Kitson breaks sales records

Tickets 'flying out the door'

Tickets for Daniel Kitson’s new show have sold out several venues within an hour of going on sale

His new tour, entitled 'After the Beggining . Before the End.' kicks off at the Liverpool Playhouse on May 8, which reported that tickets were ‘flying out the door’.

The City Varieties in Leeds claims a venue record for selling out within 45 minutes, tweeting: ‘Apologies to those who were not successful on this occasion!’

Shows in Manchester, Birmingham, Durham and Aldershot are also among those that sold out within two hours of going on sale at 10am today.

Many fans reported problems on Twitter. David Callaghan tweeted: ‘The @galadurham booking system has been a farse [sic] this morning and caused us to miss out on tickets for Daniel Kitson. Had to go to Edinburgh.’

And one Nottingham fan said: ‘Not impressed by Nott'm Playhouse & 'not answering the phone' lameness... I've literally been online and on the phone since 10am.’

But those who did succeed were happy. Twitter user @lankyguyblog said: ‘Managed to get tickets for Daniel Kitson this morning. It's quite an achievement to do that.’

In the blurb for the new show, Kitson explained: ‘I’ve been waiting to have the idea for this show for weeks, for months’ – when it suddenly struck him.

He wrote: ‘Somewhere between East London and South London - It arrived. The Idea. Just like that. Like a child, late home from school, oblivious to the worry and the panic and the phone calls. It just walked in and sat down like it wasn’t even a big deal...

‘Two hours ago I didn’t have the idea. Now I do. And it’s going to be good.’
