Ricky Gervais to return to stand-up

WIth new tour called Humanity

Ricky Gervais is planning to return to stand-up – with his ‘angriest’ show yet.

The new tour, which he plans to title Humanity, will be his first since the 2009 show Science, which got a lukewarm critical reaction.

He told the Radio Times: ‘I think it will be my angriest yet. I don’t care any more. I’ve realised that nothing can affect you. All the criticism – sticks and stones – it doesn’t matter...

‘I don’t feel bulletproof that I’ll never make a mistake or that I’ll always command the biggest fee. I feel bulletproof in that if I get my own way I’ll be happy with the product.’

He said the title of the tour will give him an ‘excuse to be pompous’ in his onstage persona, who presumes to know everything.

Gervais also said he would be making a second series of Derek – his new comedy set in a care home – whether Channel 4 wanted it or not.

The first season starts on January 30.

Although Humanity will be his first tour in more than four years, Gervais played three untitled arena gigs in Scandinavia last month.
