US Inbetweeners trailer released

And the internet doesn't like it

The first trailer for the American version of The Inbetweeners has been released – and already the internet has decided it hates the remake.

MTV, which is remaking the show, has blocked UK viewers from seeing the video, but one unofficial YouTube upload has had 2,630 ‘dislikes’, and just 51 ‘likes’.

The show debuts on MTV on August 20, and is remarkably similar to the British version, with the same main characters and storylines.

Online comments include: ‘Why do Americans insist on ruining everything?’, ‘I don't want to live on a planet where this thing exists’ and ‘Ruined my entire week. And it's only Tuesday’.

Another popular comment said: ‘This is absolutely god awful and cringeworthy... At least The Office US was watchable, this just looks tedious and it's EXACTLY the same lines, they've just taken the original script and remade it.

While one viewer opined: ‘A major problem with this the "cast" are just cardboard cutouts of the UK cast. The UK cast fit the bill and were believable this they just don't understand the characters. And why do they look like they’re in their 20's? They are meant to be in 6th form.’’

However MTV executives will hope it will emulate the success of the US version of The Office, which started as a carbon-copy of the BBC original before finding its own style.

The main US Inbetweeners cast is Bubba Lewis (Simon), Joey Pollari (Will), Mark L Young (Neil) and Zack Pearlman (Jay).

Speaking about how the new version would differ from the British counterpart, Pearlman told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘The high school experience is pretty universal. Awkwardness with girls is definitely going to translate.’

Original creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris are executive producers on the US series, along with Brad opeland, who has written for Arrested Development and My Name Is Earl.
