Well hello, Dalai

Russell Brand's double act with Tibetan leader

Russell Brand has performed his unlikely double act with the Dalai Lama.

The comic introduced the 76-year-old spirtual leader at an event in Manchester aimed at encouraging young people to change the world.

But as well as the serious message, the Tibetan Buddhist engaged in some playful interaction with Brand during the two-hour event.

At one point the Dalai Lama playfully tugged the comic's beard, prompting him to respond: 'Not really a lot I can do in a situation like this. I just have to go with it.'

Brand said: 'Going from junkie to Shagger of the Year - three times - to now introducing the Dalai Lama. It has been an interesting journey'

He also asked the Dalai Lama if he'd pickeed up 'any spiritual tips' from the introduction, and got the reply: 'I think your openness transfers wonderfully.'

The pair went on to talk about their contrasting lifestyles. 'Day is for work, night is for sleep but you can do what makes you happy,' the Tibetan said.

'Thank you for sanctioning my lifestyle,' replied Brand, himself a Buddist.

At the end of the event the comedian concluded: 'I have found it very inspiring and helpful. We need to look within ourselves.'
