€50k mockumentary contest opens

A new comedy film competition has been launched to unearth the next mockumentary hit.

Production company beActive is looking to fund two low-budget, full-length films to distribute in cinemas and online.

Its Digital Comedy Lab contest opened last night, inviting entrants from the UK and Ireland to submit a pitch and a short YouTube video.

Six from each country will then receive training and mentoring, with two winning entrants eventually receiving €50,000 in cash and services to make a feature-length mockumentary.

BeActive chief executive Nuno Bernardo said the talent hunt was ‘created with the industry’s current demands, economics and audience tendencies in mind... We hope this will be the start of a comedy revolution.’
