Comedy Central apologises for Amy Winehouse gags

'Distress' over Apollo reruns

Comedy Central has apologised after it aired jokes about Amy Winehouse being dead in a rerun of Live At The Apollo.

On Monday, the digital channel showed a four-year-old episode of the stand-up show featuring Patrick Kielty joking about the troubled singer being ‘just a bit dirty.. and I don’t mean dirty in a good way. Amy looks like she has pissed in more sinks than she has washed in.’

And he added: ‘Shouldn’t speak ill of the dead. I know what you’re thinking, “Amy isn’t dead”, but this show isn’t going out for a few weeks and you’ve got to keep your material up to date.’

Following the broadcast, Comedy Central released a statement saying: 'We would like to apologise for any distress caused.

'The airing of this episode was an oversight and all future transmissions of the content have been cancelled.'
