Peter Kay's big tour? Just four dates

Return to stand-up confirmed

Peter Kay has today confirmed the dates for his first stand-up shows in seven years – just four nights in Manchester.

The comic last week announced he felt the urge to return to live performing, leading fans to expect another tour.

However, he will play the 10,000-seat MEN Arena just four times: April 27, 28, 29 and 30. A spokesman confirmed these shows - titled The Tour That Doesn't Tour – will be his only shows of 2010.

Tickets go on sale at 11am tomorrow, Saturday, at £35 and are sure to sell out almost instantly. In 2003, he sold it out in two hours without the scarcity – and the eBay resell value – these gigs will have.

Kay's official website has already crashed this morning under the weight of interest.

Last week, Bolton-based Kay said: ‘Writing my book recently made me realise just how much I used to love and have missed performing stand-up.

Now he added: ‘I’m delighted to be performing at the magnificent M.E.N Arena, it feels like home to me, in fact I can see my house from the roof.

In an interview to promote the shows, he added: 'I have loads of material. I have been constantly writing stuff down over the past seven years and lots has happened since then — things like Facebook, iPhones, Sky Plus. And I’ve become a dad.'
