E4 orders Phoneshop series

Sitcom script edited by Ricky Gervais

E4 has ordered a full series of PhoneShop, on the strength of a pilot that airs tonight.

Ricky Gervais acted as script editor for the series, set in a mobile phone store and created by Phil Bowker, head of comedy at production house Talkback Thames.

Bowker got Gervais his first job on television a decade ago, and the pair have remained friends.

Head of E4 Angela Jain said: ‘I absolutely loved the pilot of PhoneShop when I first saw it. I laughed out loud so I am delighted to have a full series in the pipeline for E4.

‘Everyone has a mobile phone these days - and most of us have worked in shops trying to sell stuff so it's rich pickings in comedy terms.’

PhoneShop will air at 10.05pm tonight on C4, with the full series due to hit E4 next year.
