Search for a hero

New stand-up competition launched

FHM magazine and Jongleurs have launched a new competition for budding stand-ups, with a £5,000 top prize.

Over the next two months, open mic sessions will take place at Jongleurs clubs around the UK. The funniest contestants from the heats will be judged at regional finals, eventually converging for the grand final in London at the end of November.

The winner of Stand Up Hero will also get a series of gigs at Jongleurs clubs, plus expert coaching from Ed Byrne, who gave would-be contenders some advice.

He said: ‘It’s really important to try your material out in front of a live audience before you try your luck on stage. There are a few other things you can do to make a good impression. Own the stage, look at the audience and try and engage with them.

‘Competitions like Stand Up Hero are an excellent way to jump the queue when it comes to making a career as a comedian. You can still be quite good and kicking around the B circuit but a good shot at the right competition, in front to of the right audience can make all the difference.’

To enter, send a  video of yourself performing to standup@fhm.com by September 10.
