More Beautiful People at BBC2

Comedy-drama recommissioned

BBC Two has ordered a second series of the musical comedy-drama Beautiful People.

Production will start later this year on the show, which is based on Simon Doonan's memoir of being a flamboyant teenager in suburban Reading.

Gimme Gimme Gimme creator Jonathan Harvey, who adapted the book for TV, said: ‘I am thrilled that the BBC has faith in a show which struck a chord with so many. I can't wait to get back to spending time with a group of such lovable characters again.’

Executive producer Jon Plowman added: ‘I'm jumping up and down that this musical comedy memoir will get a chance to entertain even more people in the forthcoming series.’

The cast of the first series, which attracted audiences of around 1.5million, included Meera Syal, Olivia Colman and Luke Ward Wilkinson as the teenage Doonan.
