From YouTube to Hollywood

Teenage musical comedian Bo Burnham is on the verge of signing a Hollywood deal – thanks to YouTube.

He is in negotiations to co-write a comedy from uber-producer Judd Apatow, described as an antidote to Disney’s High School Musical franchise.

Burnham, who has just turned 18, will co-write the script and the music with his school friend Luke Liacos. He met Apatow at the Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal in July.

Burnham has been recording songs in his bedroom since he was 15, and attracts millions of hits on sites including YouTube, MySpace and CollegeHumor.com. He recently signed a four-album deal with Comedy Central and taped a TV special for the channel.

He makes his UK debut at the Leicester Square Theatre next week – although he did visit Britain earlier in the year to film a set for The World Stands Up for Paramount Comedy.

He made his fist appearance on American network TV last week, on NBC's Late Night with Carson Daly. Here is the set he performed:
