Zane suspended over rape song

Comic turned DJ Alex Zane has been suspended from his Xfm breakfast show for playing a song about rape.

Bosses took the broadcaster off air at the London-based indie-rock station after he made up the song Code Of Love with his colleagues

An Xfm spokeswoman confirmed: ‘On Wednesday morning, the breakfast show broadcast an item that, in the view of station management, was distasteful and likely to cause offence.

‘This was done without the knowledge and approval of station management. As a result, the breakfast team has been suspended, pending a formal disciplinary process.

‘A full apology was broadcast on air at 7.20am on Thursday. We are sorry for any offence caused.'

One fan of the show blogged about the incident: ‘It was the funniest song I have ever heard. It was quite offensive but tongue-in-cheek, about rape.’

Fellow DJ Dave Berry is standing in for Zane, who is expected to return on September 1.
