US writers hail 30 Rock

30 Rock has been named best TV comedy in the Writers Guild Of America awards.

The show, set behind-the-scenes of a weekly Saturday Night Live style comedy, triumphed over fellow nominees Curb Your Enthusiasm, Flight of the Conchords and the US version of The Office, which won last year.

The prize for best individual episode went to an episode of The Office called The Job.

The awards were handed out on Saturday night, as the WGA announced a tentative deal that could bring the four-month writers’ strike to an end.

The new contract, which provides writers with a share of DVD and internet revenue if their show becomes a hit – but not every time it is aired online – could see a return to work as early as Monday, although it would take longer for a full vote to officially ratify the new deal.
