Another Carry On?

Brand linked to movie revival

A new Carry On movie could be in the works – with Russell Brand earmarked for a starring role.

The comic has reportedly been approached to star in Carry On To The Next Round, based on an X-Factor-style reality show.

Producers want him to play a judge similar to Simon Cowell, according to the Daily Star. Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding has been linked to the role of the contestant who Brand falls for.

Other actors said to have been approached for roles include Gavin & Stacey’s Mathew Horne and The Office star Martin Freeman.

An unnamed source told the paper: Lots of stars have been sent scripts for Carry On To The Next Round

‘It’s a typical romantic comedy based on three judges who bicker constantly but one of them falls for a contestant.

‘The fab film will be a real feel-good romp complete with brilliant comedy and some of the old-school-style original gags.’

Harding and Brand appeared together in the recent St Trinian's remake.

However, today’s report is no guarantee that a new Carry On movie will actually hit the screens. Five years ago, it was announced that French & Saunders director Ed Bye was working on Carry On London.

Little more has been heard of that project, officially listed as ‘in pre-production’ with Intandem films, with Vinnie Jones and Victoria Silvstedt touted as possible stars.

That plot would have had a 23-year-old slacker inheriting his father’s limo firm – only to discover it was actually a brothel on wheels
