News Knight 'seeks new host'

...as Sir Trevor returns to News At Ten

ITV satire News Knight is said to be looking for a new host after Sir Trevor McDonald agreed to return to News At Ten.

It is thought the newsreader is unlikely to be able to front the spoof weekly how once he starts delivering the real headlines every night.

But with audience figures of around 3 million, ITV is unlikely to want to ditch its answer to Have I Got News For You – so is on the lookout for a new anchor.

An ITV source told MediaGuardian: ‘When the News At Ten returns, News Knight will move into a new slot, perhaps after the news, and obviously there are problems about him doing the news and also a news satire because of the controversy he may attract.”

The show, which also featured Marcus Brigstocke as a regular guest, attracted 112 complaints after Sir Trevor called Bernard Manning as a ‘fat, white bastard’ in the week of his death.

Sir Trevor retired from reading the news in December 2005 after 32 years, but has agreed to front a resurrected News At Ten on ITV1.
