Little Britain takes on the world

Comedy nod in international Emmys

Stephen Fry, Little Britain and Victoria Wood have all made the shortlist for this year’s International Emmy awards.

The Christmas Little Britain Abroad specials were nominated in the comedy section, but both Fry and Wood were acknowledged in other genres.

Fry was shortlisted for his BBC2 documentary The Secret Life of a Manic Depressive; while Wood picked up a nomination for best actress for her role in ITV1 wartime drama Housewife 49.

Also nominated in the comedy category were Germany’s Alle Lieben Jimmy (Everybody Loves Jimmy), Brazil’s The Amateurs, Japan’s Neo-Office Chuckles, and South Africa’s Sorted.

Britain received eight nominations – also including Simon Schama and How So You Solve A Problem Like Maria – a big fall from the 17received last year.

The nominations were announced at the Mipcom festival in Cannes today, and the winners wil be announced in New York on November 19.
