Silverman comes to the UK

Paramount to air controversial series

Sarah Silverman’s TV series is to air in the UK, following a deal with Paramount Comedy.

The cable and satellite broadcaster has landed exclusive rights to show the controversial series, which has been the most successful new primetime show for America’s Comedy Central in several years.

Now the six half-hour episodes will be broadcast here in the autumn.

Paramount’s director of programming Matt Tombs said: ‘The Sarah Silverman Program is a great addition to our autumn line-up.

‘The show is original, irreverent and incredibly funny. I'm looking forward to introducing the comedy to a UK audience.’

Plotlines such as Silverman having a one-night stand with God have provoked outrage among some groups in the US. In other episodes, her self-centred character starts promoting Aids awareness, adopts a child to win a beauty pageant and pretends to be lesbian.
