Phoenix rising - in Spain

Dave Spikey lookalike plans tribute venue

A Dave Spikey lookalike is hoping to open his own Phoenix Nights club - in Spain.

Rod Kay, who performs a tribute to the Bolton comedian across Greater Manchester, wants to recreate the down-at-heel club for expat Brits on the Costa Blanca.

He thinks he’s found the perfect venue in Aguas Nuevas, near to where he moved in the new year, and is now planning to get the club established.

Rod, 51, told the Bolton Evening News: ‘I want to recreate the North-West atmosphere in Spain and I think there is a call for it.

‘The area is predominantly British and this would create a home-from-home place for holidaymakers and people who live out here.

‘I would like to get memorabilia from the show to decorate the club to make it really authentic. If I could get hold of some of the original props used that would be fantastic.’

The real Dave Spikey is pictured, in his role as Jerry St Clair in Peter Kay’s Channel 4 sitcom.
