America's 'Stupid' decision

Go-ahead for Britcom remakes

America’s NBC network has ordered its own versions of British comedies The IT Crowd and I’m With Stupid.

Both shows had been in development, but now the network has stumped up the money to make pilots of both shows.

And it is even trying to adapt resolutely Australian sitcom Kath And Kim for US viewers.

The network had previously tentatively agreed all three pilots, depending upon their casts – however that condition has now been lifted.

The Farrelly brothers, who made such Hollywood hits as There’s Something About Mary, are reworking BBC Three’s I'm With Stupid for NBC. The show, set in a home for the disabled, will be a co-production with the BBC.

The IT Crowd is being reworked by Moses Port and David Guarascio, who previously worked on fashion magazine sitcom Just Shoot Mem with creator Graham Linehan acting as a consultant.

And South Park alumnus Nancy Pimental will set to work on the suburban Australian sitcom about brash middle-aged Kath and her slothful grown-up daughter.
