Club serves up lunchtime comedy

An Edinburgh club is to attempt lunchtime comedy shows in a bid to entertain office workers.

Live comedy is usually associated with drunken late-night crowds, but The Stand is hoping to attract new audiences with its daily 50-minute improv shows.

The promise is that for £5, workers get a lunch and entertainment – and a guarantee that they will be back at their desks within an hour of the show starting at 1pm.

Club director Tommy Sheppard believes the Out To Lunch shows, which start on January 8, will also attract tourists in the Scottish capital.

He said: ‘Potentially there’s a whole new audience out there, so we decided to open the doors during the day and see what happens

‘It’s better than standing in the rain outside Greggs for a filled roll.

The comedy will be provided by improv duo Stuart Murphy and Gary Dobson, who already perform lunchtimes shows at The Stand on Sundays.
