Tuck off

Lucas turns down Robin Hood role

Matt Lucas has turned down the BBC’s offer to play Friar Tuck in the next series of Robin Hood – saying he’s far too busy.

He and David Walliams are fully booked for the next 12 months with an Australian tour and a new TV sketch show.

Lucas, who will marry long-term boyfriend Kevin McGee in a civil partnership ceremony tomorrow, said: ‘Me and David are working together through next year – though I do think it's a great series.’

BBC One controller had Peter Fincham had said he would be ‘very happy’ if the Little Britain star filled the role.

The duo have also vowed to stay at the BBC.

When asked if a move to ITV could be on the cards, Lucas said: ‘We're BBC, us. We have always been at the BBC and love working there.

‘Creatively they let us do what we want and we are very happy. We hope we'll have a long career there.

‘That said, 30 more pence...’
