Little Britain up for an Emmy

Little Britain is to go head-to-head against Channel 4’s The IT Crowd for the International Emmy award for best comedy.

And, defying the national stereotypes, the two Britcoms will be up against two German shows – Paare and The Amateurs – for the presitious gong.

British productions lead the shortlists announced today, with 17 nominations including Life On Mars, Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares and actors Imelda Staunton (for My Family and Other Animals), Bernard Hill (A Very Social Secretary) and Ray Winstone (Vincent).

The awards will be handed out in New York on November 20.
