Moran to star in BBC One pilot

Dylan Moran could be starring in a new prime-time BBC One sitcom.

The Black Books comic is filming a pilot episode of Too Much Too Young next month, one of several ideas planned to bring hit comedies back to the corporation’s flagship channel.

He will play Angus, a man who became a father aged just 18, who now has to face the prospect of his daughter Kayleigh becoming and adult even though he is reluctant to let go of his youth himself.

Maxine Peake, star of Shameless and See No Evil: The Moors Murders, plays his wife Shell. And they have two other children,

12-year-old Callum, and seven-year-old Maisie, described as ‘weird beyond belief’.

Writer Paul Rose said on his blog: ‘If there is such a thing as a dream cast, this is it. And it's being directed by the profoundly experienced Nick Wood, who directed the first series of Black Books.’

The show will be shot in front of an audience in Manchester on October 1.

Rose also has another pilot in the pipeline, Now The Weather, about an insecure weatherman.

The show, which will be shot in the single-camera realism style, will star  Green Wing’s Mark Heap in his first lead role.
