Little America

Comedy set to be remade for HBO

Little Britain is poised to be remade for American TV.

Matt Lucas and David Walliams last month signed a deal with showbiz impresario Simon Fuller, the entrepreneur behind Pop Idol, to develop the show for the US.

Now Fuller has hinted that he is about to strike a deal with leading cable network HBO to find US equivalents for characters such as Vicky Pollard and Dafydd Thomas.

He told Broadcast magazine: ‘We are on the brink of confirming something rather special.

‘Think back to Monty Python. Who would have thought that would have been such a big hit in America?”

Lucas and Walliams will be winding up their 140-date tour this autumn, and they received a  £2 million advance for a DVD of the live show.
