Canada remakes The Office

...and the lead character's called Gervais

Canada is to make its own French-language version of The Office, renaming David Brent as David Gervais.

Shooting is already under way on the 12-part series, which now revolves around the company Papiers Jennings based in Côte-de-Liesse, Quebec.

However, the makers say their version, Le Job,  is ‘very faithful to the British series’.

Producer Anne-Marie Losique said: ‘I saw the original show on DVD and found that it was one of the most risqué and extraordinary shows ever. For me, it's a cult classic.

‘I hope that people will like our adaptation: we are really paying homage to the original British version while adapting it. The world of the office speaks to everyone, it is universal.

‘Our show is also set in the suburbs where nothing ever happens.’

The remake, starring Antoine Vézina as Gervais, will air on the Bell ExpressVu network from October
