Eric back on TV

Eric Sykes is to return to TV.

The 83-year-old comic will appear in Last of the Summer Wine later this year, playing a groom-to-be.

His character Doggie invites the elderly male residents of the village to his stag night, which hits problems when Doggie gets drunk

Producer Alan JW Bell told The Mirror: ‘Eric loved the script and arrived on set with a definite view of how Doggie should be played. He was perfect.’

The episode will be screened as part of the 28th series of Last Of The Summer Wine later this year.

Previous guest stars on the show, now in its 33rd year, have included Norman Wisdom Gorden Kaye and John Cleese, who used the pseudonym Kim Bread.

Sykes’ last TV role was guesting on BBC daytime soap Doctors in 2004, and he’s recently made appearances on The Bill and Holby City.
