Seeing double

Iannucci works on two BBC pilots

Armando Iannucci is producing two new sitcom pilots with Chris Addison and Father Ted writer Arthur Mathews.

Addison’s show, called The Chris Addison Show, is set in a university laboratory and is described as a ‘silly and daft’ sitcom.

The surreal programme, being piloted for BBC Three, is a spin-off from his Radio 4 and Edinburgh Fringe show The Ape That Got Lucky.

It will be produced by Iannucci, whose worked with Addison on the acclaimed satire The Thick Of It, and the comic’s regular collaborator Simon Nicholls.

A pilot episode will be recorded in Television Centre, West London, in August.

Meanwhile, Mathews has written ‘a stupid narrative comedy set in a municipal library’ called Shush.

The sitcom will star Morwenna Banks, Rebecca Front, and Simon Greenhall, who played Geordie Michael in I'm Alan Partridge.

The pilot for this show is being taped in September.
