Coogan the gigolo

Steve plays escort in new movie

Steve Coogan is to star as a male escort in a new film, Call Me, it was announced in Cannes today.

The comedian is working on the movie with BBC Films and his own production company, Baby Cow. Marion and Geoff co-writer Hugo Blick will write and direct it.

Coogan’s colourful private life may help in his new role. The comic, who has reportedly been seeing Kurt Cobain’s widow Courtney Love, allegedly cheated on ex-wife Caroline Hickman with two lapdancers.

Coogan will next month appear in a new BBC Two comedy with his next creation: an angry, divorced roadie turned pest-controller called Tommy Saxondale.

It was also announced today that Coogan’s movie Lies and Alibis will receive its US premiere at the CineVegas film festival next month.

The comedy-drama, in which Coogan plays a former conman now running an alibi service for cheating husbands, will close the Las Veags festival on June 17. It also stars X-Men actors Rebecca Romijn and James Marsden.
