Wood's musical to tour UK

Victoria Wood’s Acorn Antiques musical is to tour the UK from December.

The comedian will also make her stage directing debut with the tour, which kicks off with a three-week run at the Lowry in Salford from December 11.

Details of most of the other venues have still not been unveiled, but there will be a one-week run at the Birmingham Hippodrome in March next year.

Stuart Griffiths, chief executive of the Hippodrome, said: ‘We are very excited that the producers are bringing this successful production to Birmingham Hippodrome. We anticipate our box office to be very busy when general booking opens.’

Last year, the show enjoyed a 16-week run at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in the West End, with a cast that included original TV cast members Julie Walters, Celia Imrie and Duncan Preston. The cast of the regional tour has not yet been announced.

Acorn Antiques, The Musical! follows Miss Babs’ struggle to keep her antiques business open, as shop after shop in the High Street is forced out by faceless chains.
