Carry On's Patsy dies

Actress was 71

Carry On actress Patsy Rowlands has died at the age of 71.

She also appeared in a number of sitcoms, including the Seventies classic Bless This House.

Rowlands, who became an actress relatively late in life, made her first Carry On appearance in 1969 in Carry On Again Doctor.

She would appear in a total of nine of the films, including Carry On At Tour Convenience and Carry On Matron, always as a long-suffering wife or employee.

She went on to play Betty alongside Sid James in Bless This House, which ran from 1971 to 1976, and was later a regular in Salvation Army sitcom Hallelujah! as Thora Hird’s neice.

Her agent Simon Beresford said: "She was just an absolutely favourite client She never complained about anything, particularly when she was ill, she was an old trouper.

"She didn't mind always being recognised for the Carry On films because she thoroughly enjoyed making them. She was a really lovely person and she will be much missed."

She died on Saturday morning and leaves one son, Alan.
