Lee nominated for top theatre award

Lee Evans has been nominated for the top award in West End theatre for his role in The Producers.

The comic has been shortlisted for the Laurence Olivier award for best actor in a musical for his role as impressario Leo Bloom.

Co-star Nathan Lane, who left the show in December because of an injury, is also up for the same award.

In all, the show received eight nominations – dominating the shortlists with Mary Poppins, which had nine.

The winners will be announced at the London Hilton on February 20.

The Producers recently won the prestigious Evening Standard theatre award for best musical.
