Left-winger to play the Comedy Store

The Comedy Store has played host to some big names in its time, including the likes of Eddie Izzard, Robin Williams and Mike Myers.

But the latest star to grace its stage is perhaps the most unlikely of them all: veteran Labour politician Tony Benn.

The Left-winger will be appearing on a bill alongside the likes of Daniel Kitson, Robert Newman and Andre Vincent at a London fundraiser next month.

The July 5 benefit is in aid of The Peace Cycle, a six-week London to Jerusalem bike ride to highlight the effects of the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

Also on the bill are Ivor Dembina, who recently visited the Middle East to find material for his latest one-man show, musical comic Steve Gribbin and Ayesha Hazarika, a new stand-up who happens to be the press secretary of Trade Minister Patricia Hewitt.
