Djalili scoops best comic title

Omid Djalili has been named best comedian at an awards ceremony honouring the best ethnic talent.

The Iranian comic won the comedy title at the Emma award ahead of fellow nominees Gina Yashere, Felix Dexter and Angie Le Mar.

And The Kumars at Number 42 won the TV entertainment category.

The awards were handed out at the Grosvenor House hotel in a ceremony hosted by Cutting It star Angela Griffin and Kumars comic Sanjeev Bhaskar.

This is the fifth year of the Emmas (Ethnic Multicultural Media Awards), awarded by an independent body and designed to highlight the contribution made to culture by minorities.

The awards will be screened on BBC2 at 10.45pm on Sunday.
