Here lies Jeffrey Archer...

TV satire to lampoon shamed peer

The BBC is to make a satirical film lampooning Jeffrey Archer.

Drop The Dead Donkey writer Guy Jenkin will put the shame Tory peer in the firing line with the programme Jeffrey Archer The Truth.

It will show the world as Lord Archer sees it, mocking on his reputation for embellishing the facts.

The satire - part of a £10million package of new political dramas - would have been impossible a few years ago because of strict BBC rules limiting the portrayal of living people.

Jane Tranter, the BBC's controller of drama commissioning, told The Independent: "It is his life seen through his eyes, his contribution not just to national events but to world events."

"It is a very funny portrayal of how Jeffrey Archer might think his life has worked out."

The film has yet to be cast.
