The funniest film ever?

Bean tops poll

Londoners have voted Bean the funniest film of all time.

The knockabout Rowan Atkinson comedy will now be shown at a free open-air screening in Leicester Square.

Thousands of people voted for the 1997 movie in an online poll for the London Comedy Festival.

However, the choice of titles was limited as the winning film had to be suitable for family viewing.

The public screening on May 19 is a first for Trafalgar Square, which London mayor Ken Livinstone is keen to promote as a centre for cultural events.

It will be preceded by a bill of live stand-up, starting from 6.30pm, with the film commencing at 8.30pm.

Several other classic comedies - including This Is Spinal Tap and Dr Strangelove - will be shown at the Soho Curzon during the festival.
