Ronni named top new TV talent

Ronni Ancona has been named best new TV talent.

Alistair MacGowan's comedy partner - and star of ITV's The Sketch Show - picked up the accolade at the Television and Radio Industries Club (Tric) awards yesterday.

The award comes more than a year after she was named best newcomer at the British Comedy Awards.

In other awards yesterday, Linda Green, starring Liza Tarbuck as a nightclub singer, was named comedy programme of the year.

And Radio 4's long-running News Quiz was named radio programme of the year.

But the night belonged to Ant and Dec, who were named TV personalities of the year, while their shows CD:UK and Pop Idol were also winners.

Pop Idol was named TV entertainment programme of the year, beating The Frank Skinner Show and So Graham Norton.

CD:UK was named best TV music and arts programme.

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly left the show in December to concentrate on other TV commitments, including plans for a new series of The Likely Lads.
