Billy's book of the year

Wife's biog scoops title

Pamela Stevenson's biography of husband Billy Connolly has been named book of the year.

The former comedienne, now a psychotherapist, triumphed at The British Book awards last night.

Broadcaster Pete McCarthy was named newcomer of the year for his comic travel book McCarthy's Bar.

The awards are a combination of critical judging and sales figures - and Stevenson's book Billy was the top-selling non-fiction book of last year
