Character building

Lenny unveils new creations

Lenny Henry is to unveil a cast of new characters in his new sketch show, his first comedy programme in three years.

The new creations include Weekend Dad, who tries too hard to make his access visits to his son unforgettable, and Steve, a man so attached to his fishing partner he refuses to leave him alone.

Another character, Unsuitable Bloke, applies for jobs well beyond his capability, but is sure he is rejected only because he is black.

Henry says it's great to be back doing comedy after recent excursions into the worlds of straight acting and even transatlantic yachting.

"I've really missed doing character comedy," he said. "It's great to be doing this stuff again, it's like having big dollops of lovely medicine."

"I've had a wonderful time working with incredibly talented people, and I'm not just saying that because the cast and crew and standing over me with blunt instruments."

Lenny Henry In Pieces will be start on BBC1 later this month, at a date and time to be confirmed.
