Gorman wows NY critics

A big cheese in the Big Apple

Dave Gorman has been wowing the critics in New York.

Favourable reviews have been coming in since his show Dave Gorman? - Edinburgh Fringe 2000 at Chortle.co.uk">Are You Dave Gorman? opened off Broadway last week.

The influential New York Times said the show was "very funny" and "wild and witty" and that Gorman "is the sort of comedian who can - and does - mine laughter from reading a phone book".

On his official website, Gorman said: "'I'm really glad to have received such a positive review in such an illustrious newspaper."

Meanwhile the popular tabloid the New York Post said it was " as splendid an example of British eccentricity as has graced our shores in quite some time ... The show is unmatched entertainment, delivered in a mild manner by a fellow who seems odd, but is impossible to dislike."

Are You Dave Gorman?, which premiered at last year's Edinburgh Festival and has spawned a BBC2 show and a book, is at Manhattan's Westbeth Theatre until November 3.
