Scott Gibson charged over 'inappropriate texts'

Comedian due in court later this month

Stand-up Scott Gibson has been officially charged over allegations he sent inappropriate sexual messages to a number of female comedians.

Chortle has learned that the comedian will face four charges under the Sexual Offences Act when he appears in court, with a date expected later this month.

The 32-year-old Glaswegian, who now lives in Langbank, Renfrewshire, won the best newcomer award at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe with a show about how he survived a life-threatening aneurysm

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told Chortle: ‘A 32-year-old man is the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal in connection with the alleged contravention of the Sexual Offences Scotland Act 2009, which occurred between April 2016 and April 2017.’

It is an offence under section 6 of that Act to ‘cause a person to see or hear an indecent communication’ .

Gibson is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at the end of July, just days before the start of this year’s Edinburgh Fringe, where he is due to be performing a show called Like Father, Like Son.

The comedian’s spokesman declined to comment further on the new developments.
